Chain O Lakes State Park

We had severe weather last night with tornado warnings which sent us to the basement but, it brought in a cool front and today is perfect. 70 degrees, light breeze and partly cloudy. Perfect day for hiking.

Kathryn took a day off work (Mon) and we continued our journey of visiting state parks in Illinois for nice day trip hikes. Kathryn, cutter and I drove about 1 1/2 hours north northeast to Chain O' Lakes State Park. We did three hikes that totaled 6.2 miles.

Hike 1 Badger Park Trail

ok hike. Had lunch on a picnic bench at the trail head after we did the hike. Nice place for lunch.

Hike 2 Goldfinch Trail

This was the most picturesque hike of the day.

Hike 3 Sunset Trail

Unexpected from the map view but this was a nice hike. Ended up at the water front where we took a short break and enjoyed the scenery on a picnic bench.

All in all a good day of hiking. The State Park was good and very lightly trafficed. Beats indoors! The traffic to and from was a bit of a hassle but, it's Chicagoland after all.
